The Ultimate Oregon Wine Guide: A Gift For You!

Aug 17, 2025

You may have noticed your inbox was a little quiet last weekend… I meant to send a newsletter, I really did. But I’ve got a few decent excuses:

First, I’ve been working on something that I’m excited to share with you today — a comprehensive Willamette Valley Wine Guide inspired by the tastings I’ve been hosting. I know, I know, it’s the third guide this summer. But what can I say? Your girl loves a guide, and apparently y’all do too 🤷🏼‍♀️

Second, I threw a big birthday bash for Wesley — Arden’s wonderful wine director — at my house last weekend. The theme was so fun that I’m saving it to share in a future newsletter, but let’s just say it involved Cheetos, fried chicken, a whole lot of bougie wine and more junk food than I’ve consumed in years. If you’re reading between the lines and thinking, “Kelsey are you saying you couldn’t write a newsletter because you were… hungover??” 👀 No comment...

And third, I started rehearsals for a play!

If you’ve been here a while, you’ll know I was an actress first, sommelier second (which is why Her Way now bringing those worlds together makes my heart explode). While I no longer act to pay the bills, I do gift myself the joy of doing a play every few years, just because it makes me so happy.

This particular show is a new adaption of Hitchcock’s Dial M for Murder with a feminist twist. I play a 1950’s American novelist with a penchant for bourbon and a transatlantic accent, and I’m having a blast. We’re rehearsing all of August and performing in September — so, if you don’t see me at Arden, that’s where I am.

Now back to wine...

Hosting Oregon Wine Tastings this summer has been delightful but, at the end of each one, someone inevitably asks, “So which wineries should I visit?”

Well, now I have a better answer than just listing a litany off from memory…

I’ve put together a Willamette Valley Wine Guide— my favorite wineries, organized by experience type (no-frills, funky, fancy, luxurious, experimental etc)— as well as:

* My go-to wine country restaurants

* A few great options for accommodations when you want to stay overnight

* Car services for designated driver options

* Plus Portland recs: the best tasting rooms and wine lists in the city

It’s totally free, and perfect for anyone planning a wine weekend — or hosting friends from out of town. Save it to your phone and tag me in your adventures!

Speaking Of Special Wine Experiences...

Next month, I’m hosting two special nights at Arden: a 'Girls of the Gorge' takeover. These five extraordinary women winemakers are the same producers featured in the roundtable segment of our upcoming *Her Way* TV episode. These ladies are so inspiring that, after filming, we all agreed the conversation needed to continue. So we’re throwing a two-night party!

The Gorge is one of the most fascinating wine regions in the country. Its remote, rugged, wildly diverse terroir defies categorization — and it attracts inhabitants who, as you might imagine, relish a challenge. These women aren't just winemakers — they’re farmers, business owners, creative forces, and total badasses. Their wines are small production, hands-on, low-intervention, and rarely seen outside the Gorge. So this is your chance to not only taste some very special wines —but meet the women behind them too.

The lineup includes:

Bethany Kimmel of Color Collector – Oregon’s Gamay queen, crafting expressive, single-varietal wines

Teddy Fuller of Lushington Wines – elegant, traditional-method sparkling from high-elevation vineyard sites

Julia Bailey of Loop de Loop – intuitive, site-driven wines with emotional resonance and edge

Shahnnen Elizabeth Head of Estelbrook – biodynamic, regenerative farming and amphora-aged, natural wines

Carly Laws of Freetime Wines – climate-conscious, world-class Pinot Noir in cans (yes, you read that right!)

Chef Erik is creating a Columbia Gorge-inspired dinner menu to match, and wines will be available by the glass, bottle, and take-home retail. A portion of proceeds will go to Columbia Gorge Fire Relief.

It’s going to be an unforgettable (two) nights, and seats are going fast!
